University of Wyoming football faces roster setbacks as Ryken Banks suffers season-ending injury
The University of Wyoming football program is facing roster challenges following news that freshman running back Ryken Banks will miss the season due to a torn ACL. Head coach Jay Sawvel indicated that the injury might also involve the meniscus, pending surgical evaluation. Banks, a highly recruited prospect, joins several other players, including Tyler Nystrom, Nate Geiger, Cody Crawford, and Taylor Hasselbeck, who have suffered season-ending knee injuries.
In response to roster depth and new NCAA rules, such as the '5-in-5 rule' regarding redshirting, Sawvel expects increased opportunities for younger players. The coaching staff is looking toward true freshman linebacker Dante Bruley and other newcomers like Bo Gable to contribute to the team's depth, particularly on special teams units.
