University of Wyoming researcher suspected of poisoning by colleague

Kiệt Trần, a Vietnamese doctoral researcher at the University of Wyoming, is suffering from severe health issues following an alleged poisoning incident. His sister reported that he experiences extreme fatigue, insomnia—sleeping only about one hour per night—and an inability to stand for long periods, forcing him to pause his teaching duties.

Authorities arrested 32-year-old Aili Wang, a Chinese microbiology doctoral student, at Los Angeles International Airport on October 6. She is accused of adding toxins to the tea of her colleague, whom she reportedly disliked, and attempting to flee the United States.

Trần’s research involves federally funded projects regarding new technologies for treating cancer, neurological diseases, and genetics. His family has expressed profound distress over the potential for permanent neurological damage. A GoFundMe campaign launched by his wife has raised over $38,500 to assist with medical expenses, which are significant as he does not hold U.S. citizenship.
