University of Zadar hosts Media and Information Literacy Week
The University of Zadar is hosting Media and Information Literacy Week from October 24 to 31, 2026. Organized by the Department of Psychology and the Department of Information Sciences and Technology, the event includes academic lectures and religious services.
During a lecture at the University Library, Professor Krešimir Krolo addressed the shift from critical thinking to increasing cynicism toward the media. Krolo noted that while media literacy is intended to help citizens recognize manipulation, many are instead adopting a view that all media outlets are equally untrustworthy. He distinguished between skepticism, which seeks evidence, and cynicism, which involves a refusal to let new information change existing opinions.
Additionally, Archbishop Milan Zgrablić led a mass at the University Church of St. Demetrius to mark the beginning of the 2026/27 academic year. In his address, Zgrablić emphasized the human responsibility of education, urging the academic community to foster reasoning, respect for dignity, and the connection between knowledge and ethical living.
