Balkan health initiatives focus on cancer prevention and awareness
Various health initiatives across the Balkans are focusing on cancer prevention and awareness during October.
In Croatia, the ‘Budi mRAK’ campaign is partnering with the University of Zadar and the Zadar Institute of Public Health to provide HPV education and free vaccinations for students. In Šibenik, women living with cancer organized a ‘Pink pub quiz’ to foster community support. In Rijeka, the association ‘Srce za nju’ held a concert featuring Nina Badrić to support women battling cancer.
In Montenegro, Milena Milatović initiated a panel in Podgorica focused on the importance of early breast cancer detection and regular preventive screenings.
In Serbia, the ‘Pedal for Cancer’ campaign was held in Kragujevac, organized by the Milica Women's Center. The event included a bicycle ride and the deployment of a mobile mammogram, which conducted 800 screenings. The campaign aims to highlight the necessity of early diagnosis, noting that breast cancer is curable in over 90 percent of cases if detected early.
