University of Zagreb Faculty of Law celebrates 250th anniversary
The Faculty of Law at the University of Zagreb marked its 250th anniversary with a ceremonial concert at the Croatian National Theatre. The event was attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who praised the institution for its role in developing Croatia's legal tradition and its contribution to adapting the national legal system to European Union standards.
Plenković highlighted the faculty's influence on the judiciary, economy, and politics, noting that its graduates helped establish law faculties in Split, Rijeka, and Osijek. He also mentioned recent infrastructure improvements, including the opening of two renovated faculty buildings, with further renovations planned for the rectorate and the main building at Republic of Croatia Square.
Krunoslav Katičić, an envoy of the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, addressed the evolving legal landscape, emphasizing the need for new curricula to prepare students for challenges involving artificial intelligence, digital environments, and copyright protection. He encouraged young lawyers to consider careers in public institutions such as the courts, the State Attorney's Office, and the Croatian Parliament.
