University of Zagreb Rector Stjepan Lakušić begins second term
Stjepan Lakušić has been inaugurated for a second term as the Rector of the University of Zagreb. His mandate, which runs until 2030, focuses on several key strategic priorities including the completion of building renovations, the development of the Borongaj campus, and improving student living standards.
Lakušić announced that a renovation cycle valued at one billion euros is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. He also addressed the shortage of student accommodation, noting that Zagreb requires approximately 2,500 additional housing capacities over the next two years to meet demand. A new student dormitory in Petrinja is projected to open in January 2027.
Additionally, the Rector emphasized the need to align student enrollment quotas with labor market demands and highlighted the importance of mental health and inclusivity within the university community.
