University secures second place in Hunter Rugby ladder

University secured second place on the Hunter Rugby ladder following a 33-22 victory over Maitland at Marcellin Park. The win ensures a major semi-final matchup against Merewether, who secured the minor premiership after a 45-14 win over South Beaches.

University coach Josh Meads noted the unexpected nature of their ascent, stating, "I don't think anyone would have thought that Uni would be playing off for second place." The club's last premiership title was achieved in 1988.

Maitland will face Wanderers in the minor semi-final. The competition finals are scheduled to begin on August 22 following a break next weekend.
