University student dining services face reopening and capacity challenges

The Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) social campus is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, October 15, 2026. According to the Centre des œuvres universitaires de Dakar (COUD), three university restaurants—Central, Claudel, and FASTEF—will be operational immediately upon reopening. Other campus sites and dining facilities will resume service progressively. To manage security, visitors must present identification to enter the campus.

In France, students at the University of Rouen are facing challenges regarding the 1-euro meal program implemented by the Crous. Following the generalization of this low-cost meal in May 2026, university restaurants have experienced significant overcrowding. Students report long wait times, sometimes exceeding one hour, leading some to skip meals or purchase alternatives. To manage demand, Crous has implemented capacity limits, a measure that has drawn criticism from student unions and social media users who argue it restricts access to essential nutrition.
