University students hold protests against sexual violence
Students at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) held demonstrations on October 8 to advocate for sexual assault survivors and demand institutional accountability.
At CSUN, participants joined a walkout to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Organizers, including leaders from the Black Student Union and Planned Parenthood Generation Action, called for sustained campus engagement, improved resource promotion, and better investment in student support organizations. Speakers emphasized that conversations regarding consent and safety must continue beyond high-profile viral cases.
At UNR, student groups including the National Organization of Women (NOW) and the UNR Packtivists organized a protest at the Joe Crowley Student Union plaza. The demonstration was held in response to a sexual assault case at Cornell University. Activists used the event to educate peers on Title IX and to advocate for legal and institutional protections for survivors.
