University students win mining maintenance hackathon in Chile

Students from the Universidad de La Frontera won the sixth edition of the NTT DATA Chile Hack the Challenge. Their winning project, titled Slosh Pulse, utilizes advanced sensors and real-time panels to transition mining truck maintenance from a reactive to a predictive model.

The competition, held in collaboration with Komatsu, challenged STEM students to design innovative, reliable, and economically viable technological solutions for the mining industry. Participants used artificial intelligence, data monitoring, and open-source tools to anticipate critical conditions in mining trucks before they cause operational failures or downtime.
