University study challenges idea that frequent wine tasting creates experts
A study published in the journal Intelligence & Cognitive Abilities challenges the notion that frequent wine tasting alone leads to expertise. Led by researcher Maximilian Krolo from the University of Saarland and a professor from the University of Edinburgh, the research suggests that structured training is more significant for deep learning than mere experience.
The study utilized 525 participants, assessing them through the ICAR intelligence test and WSET Level 2 wine knowledge questions. Researchers aimed to determine if intelligence levels could predict the ability to acquire specialized knowledge in viticulture, a field often learned voluntarily rather than for professional necessity.
