University Teachers Association of Ghana Sets June 30 2026 Deadline, Threatens Nationwide Strike Over Unpaid Allowances

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) warned the government that it must resolve seven outstanding service‑condition issues by 30 June 2026 or face industrial action across all public universities. The ultimatum was issued by UTAG’s National Executive Council during a meeting at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho. The demands include signing the Interim Salary Adjustment Agreement, addressing post‑retirement contract roll‑over problems, paying the government component of the Online Teaching Support Allowance for research fellows and academic librarians, delivering the allowance for staff at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, settling promotion arrears, clearing salary arrears for staff at the Institute of Languages and the Institute of Film and Television at the University of Media, Arts and Communication, and processing the 2026 Book and Research Allowance. UTAG says negotiations on the Interim Salary Adjustment have concluded but the government has not signed the agreement. "Delays are unacceptable and risk further undermining confidence in the collective bargaining process," the association said. If the deadline passes, UTAG will consult members within five working days to authorize appropriate industrial action under its constitution and the Labour Act 2003.
