University theater groups in Mexico promote regional culture

The Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ) celebrated the completion of 50 performances of the play “El Principito” at the Esperanza Cabrera Theater. Directed by Enrique Guillén, the production was honored with a commemorative plaque and included a posthumous tribute to puppet art promoter Rafael Gómez.

Due to its success, the production has been selected for the 2025 State Artistic Circuit tour organized by the State Secretariat of Culture.

Separately, the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) is utilizing its Book Fair to promote regional traditions. The UAT South Zone Theater Company and the Yacatecuhtli Folkloric Ballet presented traditional dances, such as the Danza de la Viejada, to foster cultural identity among younger generations. The UAT programming also includes “Memorias,” a performance featuring elderly actors, and the children's play “El extraño caso del circo perdido.”
