UNLP Faculty of Medicine website targeted by SEO spam
The Faculty of Medicine at the National University of La Plata (UNLP) in Argentina has reported a cyberattack affecting how its website appears in search engine results. Authorities detected that Google search results for the institutional domain were displaying unauthorized content in Thai, promoting online gambling and slot machine platforms.
While the official website appeared normal when accessed directly, the search engine metadata was manipulated to include advertisements for gambling services. Experts suggest the incident may involve SEO spam or cloaking techniques, where malicious content is shown to search engine crawlers while remaining hidden from direct users.
In response, the faculty has activated contingency protocols and temporarily restricted access to the site to allow technical teams to normalize services and investigate the breach. It remains unclear if the institutional systems were directly compromised or if the issue was limited to search engine indexing.
