UNLV defeats Hawaii 21-6 to claim Ninth Island Trophy

UNLV defeated Hawaii 21-6 at the Ching Complex to claim their fourth consecutive Ninth Island Trophy. The Rebels improved to a 1-1 record, while the Rainbow Warriors fell to 0-2 in their Mountain West opener.

UNLV quarterback Jackson Arnold contributed 116 passing yards and two rushing touchdowns of 2 and 7 yards during the first half. Jai’Den “Jet” Thomas provided a decisive blow in the fourth quarter with a 50-yard touchdown run. UNLV's defense held Hawaii scoreless, recording five sacks and a late interception to seal the victory.

Hawaii struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, including a controversial play where a potential touchdown was ruled not a catch after a fumble. The Rainbow Warriors' offense was hampered by turnovers on downs and a late interception, failing to overcome the deficit despite outgaining UNLV in the second half.
