UNMIK Head calls for urgent action against violence against women

Peter Due, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, has called for urgent institutional action to end violence against women following the recent deaths of two women. Reports indicate both victims were killed by their husbands within a few days of each other.

Due emphasized that such violence is a serious human rights issue that must never be tolerated, normalized, or treated as a private matter. He urged relevant authorities to ensure swift, complete, and impartial investigations, while demanding full accountability and respect for due process. Additionally, he called for intensified coordination to prevent gender-based violence, protect women at risk, and ensure survivors have timely access to protection, support services, and justice.
