UNODC and Syrian authorities discuss anti-corruption reforms

A delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) met with officials from Syria’s Central Inspection and Control Authority in Damascus to discuss anti-corruption projects and legislative reforms. The discussions focused on aligning national legal frameworks with international standards established by the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Key legislative projects under review include draft laws regarding conflicts of interest, illicit enrichment, and the protection of witnesses and whistleblowers. The initiative aims to enhance institutional capacity, promote transparency, and improve Syria’s international standing in corruption and integrity indices. This meeting follows previous high-level engagements in Vienna aimed at discussing organized crime and the recovery of Syrian assets.
