Unregulated over-the-counter drugs used in overdoses, X analysis shows

An analysis of X (formerly Twitter) posts regarding drug overdoses has revealed that some products used for overdosing are unregulated over-the-counter medications. The findings, based on research by the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry, suggest that these substances are not currently subject to restrictions such as limits on multiple purchases.

This comes after the Japanese government implemented regulations in May to prohibit the sale of multiple units of certain over-the-counter drugs containing specific regulated ingredients to individuals under the age of 18. The discovery indicates that medications without such purchase restrictions may be being used for overdosing purposes.
