UNSCH Rector warns of budget cuts affecting university infrastructure

Emilio Ramírez, Rector of the Universidad Nacional de San Cristóbal de Huamanga (UNSCH), has expressed concern regarding potential budget reductions for the Ayacucho Regional Government in 2027. He warned that such a decrease could jeopardize the completion of infrastructure projects for five professional schools.

Currently, the university is managing projects using its own resources, including works for the School of Biology, perimeter fencing, roads, sidewalks, and a video surveillance system. While the Executive Branch submitted a bill to Congress for S/ 33 million to fund five university school projects, Ramírez noted that the continuity of these works is at risk.

According to the rector, preliminary information suggests the regional budget could drop from approximately S/ 900 million in 2026 to S/ 320 million in 2027, representing a nearly 64% reduction. This significant decrease could prevent the timely completion of planned university infrastructure.
