Unseasonal July Frost Hits Southern Poland, Temperatures Drop to -2.2°C

In mid‑July 2026 an unusual cold front moved over Poland, bringing Arctic air that caused ground temperatures to fall to –2.2 °C in the Orawsko‑Nowotarska region, one of the coldest spots in the country. Meteorologists linked the drop to strong night‑time radiative cooling after the passage of severe thunderstorms.

Forecasters warned that further frosts are likely over the coming nights and that the high Tatras could see snow at elevations above 2,200 m, posing difficulties for hikers and tourists. Rainfall is also expected later in the week, with warning calls for caution in mountainous areas.
