Unsko-Sanski Canton to reform healthcare staffing and sick leave
The Ministry of Health, Labor, and Social Policy of Unsko-Sanski Canton (USK) is preparing for new healthcare standards and norms set to take effect on January 1, 2027. Samir Sedić, the Ministry's secretary, announced that these reforms will require more detailed personnel planning within health institutions.
Key focus areas include the rationalization of non-medical staff employment, as current trends show an increase in non-medical personnel relative to doctors and nurses. The ministry also intends to address the costs associated with long-term sick leave and the rationalization of drug consumption.
Additionally, the canton plans to align domestic legislation regarding nursing with European guidelines. This includes updating professional qualification requirements for the title of nurse, providing solutions for staff nearing retirement, and offering further education opportunities for others.
