UNTA organizes protests for land rights and announces support for Morena

The Unión Nacional de Trabajadores Agrícolas (UNTA) has announced a protest at the Monumento a la Revolución to address several agrarian and social demands. More than 600 community members and ejidatarios from Hidalgo and the State of Mexico are participating to demand the restitution of 700 hectares in Chimalhuacán and the reconstruction of 200 homes in Chapula that were destroyed by a hurricane in 2025.

In addition to land and housing issues, the UNTA is seeking solutions for unfair teacher dismissals in several states, including Zacatecas, Michoacán, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, and Quintana Roo. The organization’s leadership highlighted rising labor poverty in Mexico, noting that official figures show a significant increase in the population facing labor poverty.

Separately, UNTA leadership indicated a political shift, stating the organization will support Morena candidates in upcoming elections. This decision follows what leaders describe as recognition from government officials of the organization’s work, noting that members have previously secured local government positions under the party's banner.
