UOB and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a hybrid infrastructure model for banking across the ASEAN region. The collaboration focuses on utilizing cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities to enhance operational resilience, meet regulatory and data residency requirements, and improve customer engagement.

The proposed model involves UOB operating systems across both on-premises infrastructure and cloud environments, including a dedicated cloud environment based in Singapore. This setup is designed to allow the bank to configure systems to meet specific local regulatory requirements in its five key markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Initial areas of technical focus include hybrid cloud architecture, data analytics, and AI-powered customer engagement. The partnership aims to combine UOB’s regional banking expertise and governance with AWS’s cloud and AI services to modernize infrastructure and accelerate innovation.
