UOCRA demands inspection after worker falls at Posadas construction site

The construction workers' union, UOCRA, has requested interventions from labor and oversight agencies following a serious accident at a construction site for a future Duty Free Shop in Posadas, Argentina. A worker fell approximately 8.5 meters while performing roofing tasks, resulting in unconsciousness and life-threatening injuries to the head, chest, and abdomen.

Héctor Vallejos, the union's general secretary in Misiones, filed a formal complaint with the Ministry of Labor and requested action from the Institute of Statistics and Registration of the Construction Industry (IERIC). The goal is to inspect hygiene and safety conditions, as well as the legal registration status of the workers on-site. Scientific Police are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the fall and whether safety protocols were breached.

This incident occurs amid broader concerns within the sector. UOCRA leaders have warned of a significant decline in construction employment nationwide, citing the halt of national public works and a reduction in private investment as primary drivers of job losses and increased labor informality.
