UODO issues fines for data privacy violations in Poland
The Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) in Poland has issued several fines for violations of data privacy regulations. In one instance, a Krakow entrepreneur was fined 31,000 PLN for failing to provide adequate contact information on two legal portals and subsequently ignoring requests for clarification from the regulator.
In separate cases involving private surveillance, a resident of Mazovia was fined 1,470 PLN for refusing to comply with a previous order to stop using security cameras that recorded neighbors' properties and public roads. The individual continued to use the cameras and sent the recorded footage to the police to report traffic offenses, which UODO deemed an improper use of monitoring as a tool for neighbor disputes rather than for protecting life or property.
UODO President Mirosław Wróblewski noted a rising trend of illegal “private monitoring” being used to resolve personal conflicts. The regulator warned that private cameras must not be used for the constant observation of spaces outside one's own property.
