UOKiK fines Bunge Polska over contract clauses harming Polish farmers

Poland's competition authority (UOKiK) imposed a fine of more than 4.2 million zł on Bunge Polska for using standard contract clauses that shifted the risk of force‑majeure events – such as drought, hail or late frosts – onto farmers. The clauses prevented producers from being exempt from liability when crops were destroyed by weather, exposing them to contractual penalties.

Bunge Polska, a subsidiary of the global agribusiness group and producer of the Olej Kujawski brand, cooperated with the regulator, resulting in a reduced settlement amount and the removal of the disputed clauses from its contracts. UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny said the intervention protects vulnerable agricultural participants and supports Poland's food‑security interests.
