UOKiK launches workshops to combat digital manipulation
The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) is organizing free workshops as part of the nationwide campaign ‘Stop Znieczulicy – Wyloguj obojętność’ to help citizens recognize digital manipulation online.
Many digital platforms use psychological mechanisms to influence user decisions, such as artificial time pressure through countdown timers or claims of limited stock. These tactics are designed to prompt immediate purchases, data sharing, or subscriptions before a user can compare offers. Additionally, consumers are warned to be cautious with ‘free trial’ periods, as these often lead to unexpected charges once the promotional period ends.
