The International Marathon of João Pessoa, scheduled for 1–2 August 2024, is attracting participants from 21 Brazilian states, with 77 % of registrants coming from outside Paraíba. Organized by the city’s Secretariat of Youth, Sport and Recreation, the event is part of the Brazil Gigante circuit and holds the Gold Seal of the Brazilian Athletics Confederation as well as World Athletics recognition.

The six‑day edition will feature 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 42 km races, plus combined challenges, and will award more than R$ 128 000 in prize money, including R$ 10 000 for each overall winner. A partnership with over 30 hotels offers participants discounts of up to 25 % on accommodation, expected to boost local tourism and generate economic activity for roughly 8 000 athletes and accompanying visitors.
