UPA criticizes insufficient fertilizer subsidies for farmers

The agricultural organization UPA has commented on the first list of beneficiaries for fertilizer purchase subsidies. A total of 249,376 farmers will receive approximately 494.57 million euros, with aid amounts ranging from 38.33 euros to 92.5 euros per hectare depending on whether the crops are rain-fed or irrigated.

Despite the distribution of funds, UPA has criticized the amount as “insufficient to resolve the cost increases” faced by farmers. The organization has also called on Autonomous Communities to provide additional support, noting that only La Rioja and the Balearic Islands have announced complementary aid. Furthermore, the sector continues to await more ambitious long-term measures from the European Commission to ensure affordable fertilizer supplies.
