Upbit to delist BONK memecoin following security concerns

South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit has announced it will delist the Solana-based memecoin BONK. The exchange is scheduled to remove BONK/KRW and BONK/USDT trading pairs at 15:00 KST on September 7, 2026. Following the cessation of trading, open orders will be cancelled, though users will have until October 7 to complete withdrawals.

The decision follows a period of “trading caution” for the token, a designation applied by both Upbit and Bithumb on July 7. The caution was triggered by a security incident involving BonkDAO, a community-managed treasury. While Bithumb lifted its caution status on August 7 after determining the issues were resolved, Upbit maintained that the grounds for the designation “have not been resolved” and proceeded with the delisting under its market-alert framework.

BONK representatives have clarified that BONK and BonkDAO are distinct entities, noting that the security attack specifically targeted the DAO treasury and did not affect other aspects of the BONK ecosystem.
