Upcoming educational lectures scheduled in Budapest and Nyíregyháza

Two upcoming educational events are scheduled in Hungary.

In Budapest, the Independent Media Center will host a lecture and discussion on November 12, 2025, at the MÚOSZ Press House. Led by linguist and communication researcher Dr. Anna Szilágyi, the session will examine the universal communication mechanisms of scapegoating. The presentation will use historical and international examples, such as the treatment of Rohingya and Ukrainian refugees, to illustrate how specific groups are held responsible for societal problems through specific rhetorical tools.

In Nyíregyháza, a lecture regarding the polymath John von Neumann will take place on November 4, 2025, at the VOKE Vasutas Cultural Center and Library. Presented by engineer-professor János Varga, the talk will explore von Neumann’s contributions to modern computing, quantum mechanics, and game theory. The event is expected to feature a rare 1955 Hungarian-language audio recording of von Neumann’s voice.
