UPEL Maturín announces anniversary program and infrastructure updates
Dr. Robin Ascanio, Dean of the Pedagogical Institute of Maturín (UPEL-IPM), has unveiled a program to celebrate the institution's 55th anniversary, beginning October 21. The festivities include patriotic honors, religious services, musical performances, and awards for administrative and environmental staff. The university also plans to honor Professor Eugenio Gómez Marcano, founder of the Orfeón Universitario, in 2026.
Regarding campus development, the university is working on projects for its East and South buildings, including self-sustaining initiatives such as sports courts, stadiums, early childhood education centers, and natural parks. A new health services space is scheduled to open in the East building this November.
To support student mobility, authorities are seeking improved fuel supplies to maintain institutional transport routes. Dean Ascanio is coordinating with regulatory bodies and the Monagas State Government to secure a permanent diesel supply. Additionally, the university is negotiating with local public transport cooperatives to provide service during peak hours.
On infrastructure, the university is addressing water service issues caused by electrical damage to the main pump system. Efforts to restore the hydropneumatic system include purchasing new cabling, replacing vandalized equipment, and the upcoming installation of a bench compressor to stabilize water supply.
