Upendra Kushwaha claims role in Nitish Kumar's political legacy

Upendra Kushwaha, leader of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), has sparked political debate in Bihar by expressing interest in carrying forward the political legacy of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Kushwaha clarified that his claim to this legacy is not about seeking government office, but rather about advancing the socialist ideologies of figures like Karpoori Thakur and Ram Manohar Lohia.

In response, the Janata Dal (United) has dismissed Kushwaha's claims. JDU leader Madan Sahni stated that the party possesses sufficient leadership and asserted that Nishant Kumar is the rightful successor to Nitish Kumar's political legacy. Sahni characterized Kushwaha's remarks as a personal desire rather than a party mandate.

Kushwaha also addressed social issues, advocating for the completion of efforts to increase reservations for backward and extremely backward classes to 65 percent, a move previously hindered by judicial intervention. He further endorsed Nishant Kumar and Deepak Prakash as promising youth leaders.
