Uplands Park to host second-annual Big Bird Day on August 29
The second-annual Big Bird Day will take place on August 29, hosted by the Friends of Uplands Park (FOUP). The event invites residents of Greater Victoria to observe and log bird sightings at Uplands Park and Cattle Point between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to record their observations on ebird.org to assist scientists, teachers, and hobbyists in tracking bird movements and habitat needs. Margaret Lidkea, president of FOUP, noted that monitoring both migratory and resident species is essential for understanding local ecosystems.
Uplands Park, known for its Garry oak woodlands, hosts 274 bird species, the highest number in the Capital Regional District. FOUP, established in 2009, focuses on protecting the park and educating the public about its biodiversity.
