Bochum: One dead following explosion at warehouse

A major emergency operation took place in the Gerthe district of Bochum on Wednesday, October 21, following an explosion at a commercial warehouse on Dieselstraße. Emergency responders discovered a deceased person outside the building. The force of the blast caused visible damage to the structure, including broken windows.

Firefighters and specialized units, including the ABC unit of the Volunteer Fire Department and the Analytical Task Force from Dortmund, were deployed to manage the scene. Responders discovered various containers of unknown chemicals inside the warehouse, prompting a hazardous materials response. Investigators are currently examining whether the facility was being used as an illegal drug laboratory.

Authorities confirmed there was no danger to the surrounding population or nearby businesses. The building's structural integrity was verified by the city's building authority and a structural engineer, confirming the warehouse remains stable.
