Upper Austria district heating rates rise up to 6%

In Upper Austria, three major district‑heating providers – Linz AG, Energie AG and EWW Wels – have announced price increases for the upcoming winter season, ranging from 3.1% to 6%. The changes affect roughly 200,000 customers and are already approved by the regional price authority. The hikes exceed the current inflation rate and come as the regional climate council urges faster expansion of renewable heat sources.

At the same time, a German heating‑maintenance initiative, WÄRME+, is urging homeowners to schedule heating checks during the summer. The campaign stresses that rising CO₂ prices on gas and oil – projected to reach €55‑65 per tonne by 2026 – make inefficient heating systems increasingly costly. Early maintenance, such as hydraulic balancing or pump replacement, can reduce fuel consumption and mitigate the impact of upcoming price rises.
