Upper Austria Governor meets with Orthodox Christian representatives

Upper Austria Governor Thomas Stelzer met with representatives from Pro Oriente and 32 Orthodox Christian parishes to discuss religious coexistence and social cohesion. The region currently hosts approximately 55,000 Orthodox Christians, with the Romanian and Serbian Orthodox churches being among the largest. The population of these Eastern churches has grown significantly in recent years due to migration and displacement.

During the exchange, community leaders raised concerns regarding the need for suitable premises for their growing congregations. Governor Stelzer praised the social and cultural contributions of the Orthodox communities and pledged to strengthen direct dialogue with these churches to foster a culture of ecumenism in the province.
