Upper Austria launches environmental education kits for schools
The environmental department of Upper Austria is introducing a new initiative to bring sustainability education directly into classrooms. To support educators, the state is providing free loaner kits and measuring devices that allow students—ranging from kindergarten to secondary school—to conduct hands-on research on topics such as soil quality, bees, water, noise, and air quality.
A new addition to the program is the glacier kit, which uses a model to demonstrate the retreat of the Hallstätter Glacier based on 20 years of measurement data. This resource includes knowledge cards and educational booklets titled ‘The Treasure of the Glaciers at Dachstein’. Additionally, the department is offering 20 workshops specifically designed for fourth-grade primary school students to make environmental changes more tangible.
