The district council of Bamberg approved the continuation of voluntary grants for 2026, allocating €18,512 to maintain a network of 36 libraries and €14,070 to support 14 welfare organisations, as well as funding specialist positions for municipal development, dementia care and migrant integration. The decision was endorsed by Landrat Johannes Maciejonczyk.

In the neighbouring city of Bayreuth, the main and finance committee set a “zero‑round” for voluntary contributions in the 2027 budget, meaning no increase in grants to clubs, associations and cultural projects. The policy follows a directive from the Oberfranken regional government, which requires municipalities to keep total voluntary spending flat to avoid over‑indebtedness. Any new grant must be offset by cuts elsewhere.

Both measures reflect the regional authority’s emphasis on fiscal restraint while preserving core community services.
