Uppsala athletics championships become final EM qualification chance
The Swedish national track and field championships opened in Uppsala on the weekend of 24‑25 July, serving as the last domestic opportunity for athletes to secure places at the European Championships in Birmingham.
A number of Sweden’s top throwers and jumpers are competing, including discus thrower Vanessa Kamga, who is hoping for her seventh national title, and world‑champion discus specialist Daniel Ståhl. Veteran spiker Kim Amb is aiming to meet the 83‑metre qualifying mark after a four‑year injury lay‑off, while pole‑vault star Armand Duplantis, despite minor injury concerns, competes with his sister Johanna also entered in the event. Middle‑distance runner Andreas Kramer seeks a comeback after injury problems, and multi‑event athlete Bianca Salming views the championships as her final chance to book an EM spot.
Several athletes have already earned selection for Birmingham, but the remaining competitors must achieve the European qualifying standards – for example, 83 m in discus or 4.60 m in pole vault – to join the Swedish squad.
