Uppsala to renovate and expand Gränby ishall A arena

The Uppsala municipal executive board has approved a major renovation and expansion of Gränby ishall A, the primary arena for hockey and figure skating in Uppsala. The project aims to modernize the facility to better serve elite hockey, improve safety, and enhance the spectator experience.

Key upgrades include a new extension with a main entrance featuring retail spaces, a restaurant, VIP areas, and improved restrooms. The redesign will separate spectators from operational areas to improve logistics and security. Additionally, new stands will increase spectator capacity to approximately 2,500 people.

The construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and will be completed in four stages, with an expected finish date in 2029. The municipality has allocated 325 million SEK for ice sports investments in Uppsala, with an additional 32 million SEK held in budget reserve.
