UPSI hosts SiSMED 2.0 symposium on crisis management
Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) hosted the Strategic Crisis and Media Management Symposium (SiSMED 2.0) in Kuala Lumpur to strengthen organizational crisis management and reputation protection. The three-day event, which included 120 participants, focused on strategic communication, narrative building, and the use of artificial intelligence in corporate communications.
Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff emphasized that crisis management requires strategic leadership and rapid response to preserve organizational reputation. He noted that preparedness must be established through communication planning and factual accuracy before a crisis occurs, rather than reacting only after an issue arises.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Raja Nor Safinas Raja Harun highlighted the importance of building strategic communication narratives in the digital era, where public perception can rapidly impact reputation. She noted that the university’s past experiences, including a tragedy in Gerik, underscored the need for swift action and effective media relations to prevent misinformation.
