UPTC rector election sees record 21 candidates

A record 21 candidates have registered to run for the rector position at the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC). The group of applicants consists of 19 men and 2 women.

The high number of candidates has sparked debate regarding the institution's future, its academic direction, and its autonomy. The rector oversees a budget exceeding half a trillion pesos. The election process will include forums, open debates, and public presentations, followed by votes from various institutional sectors. Ultimately, the Superior Council, composed of nine electors, will decide the outcome through a simple majority.
