Upwork launches MCP server to integrate marketplace with AI tools
Upwork Inc. has launched the Upwork MCP server, a new integration utilizing the Model Context Protocol to allow users to manage freelance work directly through AI tools. This development enables AI agents within platforms such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor to perform marketplace actions including posting jobs, shortlisting freelancers, drafting offers, and summarizing proposals.
The integration is designed to embed human expertise into AI-driven workflows. For clients, the tool allows for on-demand hiring without leaving their current AI environment. For freelancers, it facilitates job discovery and proposal drafting. To ensure security, Upwork stated that any action that modifies an account requires explicit user confirmation and preview, maintaining the platform’s existing identity verification, secure payment, and escrow protections.
The Upwork MCP server is available immediately to all clients and freelancers at no additional cost.
