UQAM to host panels on Quebec public discourse and social cohesion
The France–Quebec Research Chair on Contemporary Issues of Freedom of Expression (COLIBEX) will host two specialist panels at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) on September 15 and 16, 2026. The event, titled ‘The transformation of public discourse and policies on living together in Quebec: retrospective and prospective views’, aims to analyze how debates regarding identity, diversity, immigration, language, and social cohesion have shaped the Quebec public sphere.
Experts will examine the impact of these shifts on public policy, academic institutions, and democratic practices. The discussions will evaluate recent legislation and explore ways to strengthen democratic dialogue and the common good in the face of increasing polarization.
