URA movement seeks permanent pension increases in Montenegro
Zoran Mikić, head of the parliamentary club for the URA movement, has announced ongoing consultations with retiree associations to develop solutions for improving their material status. Mikić criticized the Montenegrin government's proposed model, which offers a one-time payment of 100 euros, arguing that such assistance cannot replace a permanent increase in monthly pension income.
According to Mikić, the need for permanent adjustments is driven by rising costs. Data from MONSTAT indicates that consumer prices in August were 4.5 percent higher than the previous year. URA previously proposed increasing all pensions by 40 euros monthly and adjusting them four times a year instead of three, a proposal that was not accepted by the parliamentary majority.
Mikić stated that if their proposal had been adopted, the average pension would have exceeded 600 euros this month, whereas the government does not anticipate this until April of next year. The URA movement intends to present concrete legislative proposals following their discussions with pensioners.
