Uranium producers eye growth amid rising global nuclear demand
Deep Yellow is evaluating various funding options for its Tumas uranium project in Namibia's Erongo Region. The company aims to reach a final investment decision by the fourth quarter of this year and is considering government support, convertible bonds, strategic debt, and equity to maximize shareholder value while managing risk.
Significant progress has been made at the Tumas site, with earthworks 100% complete and detailed engineering 79% finished. The project is expected to provide substantial local employment, targeting a 98% Namibian workforce, including approximately 1,200 personnel during the construction phase and 600 during operations.
Separately, Paladin Energy reports a strengthening global uranium market driven by rising demand for low-carbon electricity. The company notes that approximately 440 reactors are currently operating worldwide, with nearly 80 under construction and over 400 planned. Demand is being further bolstered by energy security needs and the electricity requirements of artificial intelligence and cloud computing, leading major technology firms to support nuclear power through long-term agreements.
