Urasenke practitioner Sokyu Nara explores tea traditions in Kanazawa

Sokyu Nara, a Gyotei of the Urasenke school, reflects on the seasonal traditions of tea ceremony in Kanazawa. Utilizing the Koko-an training hall, which is historically linked to the fourth generation of Urasenke, Senso Koji, Nara describes the integration of local history and seasonal aesthetics.

Nara highlights the use of an ‘Inari Bridge’ tea bowl created by the first generation Ohi Chozayemon, noting its connection to the historical Inari Bridge in Kanazawa. The seasonal arrangement includes various traditional elements, such as Morihachi Himuro Manju, a seasonal confection from Kanazawa, and tea utensils that evoke the transition into summer.
