Urawa Red Diamonds name Cho Ki-sang new manager amid past power‑harassment controversy

On July 5, 2026 the J1 club Urawa Red Diamonds introduced Cho Ki‑sang as its new head coach at a press conference in Saitama Stadium. The appointment follows the dismissal of former coach Mauricio Scolari after a winless run. Cho led his first public training session, stressing aggressive tactics – limiting back‑passes to one – and urging open communication with players.

During the briefing Cho addressed earlier power‑harassment allegations from his time at Shonan Bellmare, acknowledging that he had made “many mistakes and hurt people” but declined to detail his reform plans, saying his focus would be on building an attractive, winning side. The coaching staff includes several former Kyoto Sanga assistants, and the team will begin a training camp in Okinawa on July 8.
