Urawa Reds President Shimizu outlines new stadium plan amid player departures

At the "Talk on Together 2026-27" event held on July 28 in Saitama, Urawa Reds president Minoru Shimizu spoke to about 400 supporters about the club’s vision for a new or renovated home stadium. He emphasized a stronger community focus, saying the club will work closely with Saitama Prefecture, Saitama City and fans to enhance the match‑day experience and invest continuously in the venue. While no concrete details could be announced, Shimizu noted that discussions with local authorities are already underway.

Shimizu also addressed a recent wave of player departures, confirming that 15 players – including former Japan international Shoya Nakajima – have left the squad, leaving the team with 27 members. He explained that many departures stem from development pathways and players’ desire to move abroad, and that the club previously held a larger roster that could not be fully utilised. Despite the reduced numbers, Shimizu expressed confidence in the remaining squad and in future recruitment, reaffirming the club’s aim to compete for the championship, with the season opener against Gamba Osaka scheduled for August 7.
